Bush's lowest approval rating was 28, not 35.

Hi,

Let me know which rating you are referencing. I will be glad to update. I pulled this number from Wiki.

I am all for kindness and compassion, and believe you are a wonderful person for trying to shed some positive light upon Bush as a person - I hope, however, that you are able to see what an incapable and morally-reprehensible leader he is, and that any victories by the people of the United States are their own, won through perseverance, diligence, and good ol' hard work. Such victories belong to the people, not the current administration or it's incompetent leadership.

1. President Bush responded to 9/11 by initiating a "War on Terrorism"

This is something to be proud of? A "war" on an intangible concept with no goals, no way to win and an excuse to violate all manner of civil rights. This list is starting off well.

2. The 2006 updated version of USA Patriot Act passed in the Senate by a vote of 89 to 11 (98 to 1 the first time around in 2001)

The first major installment of civil rights abuses, the "temporary" measures later modified to become permanent.

3. His No Child Left Behind Act provides options to parents with students in low performing schools

Let's review the achievements of this wonderful law:

At best it's giving school administrators leverage for funding. At worst it's driving teachers crazy and reducing, rather than improving, the education available to students. Bravo.

4. His leadership has remained the same while his approval ratings have fluctuated (85% high to 35% low)

This is meant as praise? There's an old saw about the definition of insanity: you try something two times and fail, but try again a third time and expect the results to be the same. Consistency may be the hobgoblin of little minds, but rigidity of thought and behavior is exceedingly dangerous trait in leadership.

5. His $1.35 trillion tax cut program has been one of the largest in U.S. history

I can't deny this one. His tax cuts have been tremendous, and narrowly targeted. If you were already financially well-off, you're even more financially well-off. If you weren't already financially well-off, you're still not financially well-off.

I gotta give him props for standing by his base, but it's a tragically small base, and increasingly harder to join. This is not contributing to the American dream, it's hurting it, especially since his record tax cuts have been accompanied by record spending. He had the power to veto this spending, but he supported and encouraged it. That isn't laudable, it's irresponsible. That bill is going to come due, and it's going to be ugly for everyone.

6. He has a Harvard University MBA (only President with MBA)

Mmm...yeah. He's a Reserve pilot who never showed up for duty, he partied his way through college and graduated through his family's influence, failed every business venture he's ever attempted, convicted of multiple DUIs AND paid for abortions for pregnant girlfriends. He's furthermore the first president incapable of pronouncing "nuclear" since the nuclear age began. What a hero.

7. The Dow Jones and S&P 500 are near all time highs

True. Propped up by artificial means in the housing industry and by increased demand to the medical industry, businesses are doing fantastic. Too bad those record profits aren't "trickling down" to produce record wages for all the people creating all that productivity. Now that the housing bubble is bursting, you're seeing a lot less glee on Wall Street.

This point could be a good thing, but given how the effect is narrowly focused on a small portion of our economy, I suspect it isn't so good as people want it to be.

8. Bush is the first president to run a marathon (1993 Houston Marathon in 3:44:52 - 8:36/mile pace)

...Words fail to express my glee. This is a reason to respect our Glorious Leader, a man that Kim Il Jung would admire if they weren't ideologically opposed? Clinton exercised regularly, and nobody paid attention to it. At least Clinton didn't hop on his mountain bike and dodge his responsibility when the rest of his staff was dealing with a planned alert. Yeah, Clinton got a blowjob and lied about it. At least he was honest about his intentions when he took us into Somalia.

9. He’s got Laura and they’ve got Jesus

Uh huh. Bravo. The world is going to hell, but he's got Laura and "they" have Jesus. I hope Jesus has a better health plan than Laura espouses.

10. George Walker Bush is the 43rd and current president of the United States

So he is. But he's done more to dishonor the office of President than any of the 42 before him, including the 41st. He doesn't even refer to himself as the President, he prefers the title of Commander in Chief. He's a little boy playing with toy soldiers, and he doesn't give a damn that his toys are real people who bleed and die because of his games. I am ashamed that he is the president of my country, and I am especially ashamed of our nation for putting him there not once, but twice.

Do you have a blog Michael? I think you should consider one if not. While your list was opposing my list, it was a long reply that was much more detailed than my original. Either way, thank you for the response and commentary.

George Bush is the idiot son of an asshole. Do you remember that Iraq had nothing to do with 911? He should be impeached(it's still possible)...

Wow. What Michael said.

I'm bored at work and I Googled "still respect President Bush" just to see what I'd come up with. Chilling stuff.

Dude,

I'm sorry but your list is a sad one. Bush should be in jail for the lies he and his administration have pulled on the American people.

9-11 was perhaps the biggest lie ever sold to our nation. Thanks to Bush, Cheney, Rumsfield as the main characters. Ask Cheney why he took command of our military, ordering a STAND DOWN, and allowed "attacks" followed by controlled demolition of the WTC Bldgs #1, #2, and #7. Don't forget about the fake accident staged at the Pentagon.

Reasons to invade Iraqi was a huge lie too. NO WMDs, NO connection to 9-11. It was ALL about OIL. Ever hear of PEAK OIL ?

Bin Laden is a lie beyond lies, he's groomed & trained by our own CIA. He will never be found.

Where's the 2.3 TRILLION dollars that Rumsfield can't account for ?

WAKE UP AMERICANS ! Stop putting your head in the sand.

A CBSnews/NY Times poll showed Bush leaving office with an approval rating of 22%.

The lowest approval rating of a President leaving office ever polled. (Since 1938)
